When you first start mountain biking, it can be quite daunting knowing where to go. Which trails should you opt for? Are all trails suitable for beginners? How physically demanding can different terrains be? All of these questions have to be answered and it can prove to be confusing to the beginner. One extremely important factor which is often forgotten is how far you have to travel all in all. You need to consider how you will be getting to the trail. Are you driving there and then once you get there? Or do you have to cycle the whole way? Estimate roughly the amount of time you will spend riding the bike and that will give you a good idea of how fit you will have to be. When you are just starting out you should ideally choose a trail which is not too long. Build up your fitness gradually.
